Climbing on Kalymnos / GR

Kalymnos is kind of a climbing island. You can sit at the beach or go hiking, but mainly people go there to go climbing. Two groups, a Greek and an English group of people has been setting up hundreds of routes at lots of different spots. They are all well maintained, just fantastic.

You get there by flying to Kos and taking the ferry to Kalymnos. You even can get in touch with the ferry and ask that it will wait, in case your flight is delayed :-) Though maybe not just for one person, but if there are more (they did it for us :-) )
Arriving on Kalymnos you best take a taxi to the other side of the Island. We stayed in Masouri, providing lots of hotels and hostels, many restaurants and bars and climbing shops.

From Masouri you can reach several climbing spots by foot, but you should rent a scooter for several days to explore other spots on the island, you can't get there walking. I would get in touch already from at home, as it can get difficult to get one, as Kalymnos is more or less an all-year island to go and they are rented out quickly.
In some weeks Kalymnos climate could be too cold for jumping into the ocean after a days climb, some weeks are a bit more windy or rainy, or too hot, but no winter as we have it in Germany.

Check your length of rope when you fly to Kalymnos, quite a few routes make an 80m rope necessary (or even longer).

Great place to be :-) and here are some impressions...

Here we even saw a seal :-)

Close your backpack properly or your food is gone ;-)
